City & Guilds aimed to transition from their traditional paper-based IESOL (International English for Speakers of Other Languages) assessment to a modern, online testing system. The primary objective was to develop a cost-effective and efficient digital solution that could deliver faster results and seamlessly integrate with their broader vocational education offerings. This transformation needed to uphold the organization’s standards of quality, accessibility, and affordability, while enhancing the overall testing experience for candidates and educators alike.
- Cloud Data Adapter: A custom Cloud Data Adapter was built to facilitate seamless integration between City & Guilds and the British Council. This adapter leveraged Message Queues, a Scheduler, and Redis Cache to ensure efficient, real-time data synchronization and communication.
- Microservices Architecture: A suite of microservices was designed and implemented to interact with a range of APIs developed by both organizations. This modular architecture enabled better maintainability, scalability, and flexibility across the system.
- Digital Testing Platform: The result was a fully cloud-based assessment platform that significantly reduced test result turnaround time, aligned more effectively with vocational education pathways, and supported a smooth transition from traditional paper-based testing to an agile online environment.
